An athame is a ritual knife, often used in magic, witchcraft and ceremonial rituals. It is usually not sharp, because it is not intended for physical cutting — it is an energetic tool.

The sword / Athame has the same function as a wand in this respect, but with a stronger and more absolute effect.
The athame stands for focused will.
