Rare Mexican Morado Opal Dragon

This remarkable Dragon is hand-carved from rare Morado Opal from Mexico, a fascinating purple material also known as Morado Agate. Its soft lavender and violet tones flow through a natural matrix of chalcedony and quartz, while parts of the original botryoidal surface have been preserved. These rounded, grape-like formations give the Dragon its ancient, almost otherworldly appearance.

Morado Opal has a striking visual resemblance to the famous Grape Agate from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Both display beautiful purple colouring and naturally rounded crystal formations. However, they are not the same mineral: Indonesian Grape Agate consists primarily of botryoidal quartz, while Mexican Morado contains purple common opal within a chalcedony and quartz matrix. This makes each material—and certainly a hand-carved Dragon of this size and character—exceptionally distinctive.
