Lakelandite Medaillon Pendant

Lakelandite is the trade name for a rare, dark volcanic rock found only in the Lake District of Cumbria, England. Geologically, it is a porphyritic dolerite or basalt containing pale crystals of bytownite, a calcium-rich variety of plagioclase feldspar. The stone formed approximately 470 million years ago during the intense volcanic activity that shaped this ancient landscape.

Lakelandite is sometimes simply called Lakeland Stone, although this name can also refer more generally to stones from the Lake District. Its precise collecting location is usually not publicly disclosed, but the material originates near one of Cumbria’s prehistoric stone circles. While the local volcanic rocks have long been used for walls, buildings and monuments, no specific ancient use of the material now sold as Lakelandite has been documented.

Lakelandite is valued for its deep grey to green-black colour, contrasting feldspar markings and distinctly ancient character. Metaphysically, it is regarded as a strongly grounding and protective stone. It is believed to promote stability during periods of change, calm chaotic energy and strengthen the connection with the Earth, ancestral wisdom and one’s own inner foundation.
